My Leadership Philosophy
Leadership is a process, a journey one goes on, to pursue God’s calling, to become something we are not yet, so we can inspire others to become something better, and do more in pursuit of a shared vision that will lead to something greater.
For me, leadership begins with understanding who I am and what I have been designed to do. Each of us has a unique story, and understanding my true self will help me discover my passions and purpose in leadership. “Our unique calling will be based on our gifts and abilities, will grow out of our deepest desires and will always involve some response to the needs of the world” (Benner, 2004, p. 96). Leadership involves pursuing personal transformation and change so I can lead others to do the same. Leadership is as much about who I am as what I do. It is about being authentic and transparent, a person of humility and integrity, morally grounded and driven by high values. Leadership is about being courageous, willing to risk, always eager to learn, and able to extract wisdom from the struggles and crucible experiences that are inevitable.
Leadership is all about relationships, serving others, engaging and being actively involved with people, listening to them, motivating them, encouraging them, and developing trust. Good leaders inspire people to dream, challenge others to grow, encourage followers to try, and empower those around them so they can reach their highest potential. The purpose of my leadership is threefold: to have an eternal impact on people’s lives and the choices they make, to find personal fulfillment through using my strengths and creative abilities, and to help other people discover their unique gifts and talents and how they can use those in furthering God’s kingdom. I want to become a cheerleader of development and a change agent used by God to lead, influence, challenge, and encourage people to grow and to be what God has made them to be, resulting in life change in the areas of their spiritual growth, personal development, and the discovering of their unique potential and gifts.
